Charles Bartlett was born in 1921 in Grimsby, Lincolnshire. His father died when he was just 6 years old. Married for many years to fellow artist Olwen Jones Charles, he trained as a painter etcher at Eastbourne School of Art and went on to The Royal College of art. In 1960 he became a lecturer at Harrow School of Art, in 1961 he was elected Fellow of The Royal Society of Painter Printmakers and in 1970 elected Fellow of The Royal Watercolour Society. From 1987 to 1992 Charles was elected to the noted position of President of The Royal Watercolour Society.
Already well established as an innovative printmaker, in 1961 Bartlett was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of Painter-Printmakers, and later became vice president. He was elected a Fellow of the Royal Watercolour Society in 1970, giving up full-time teaching to be a full-time artist. In 1975 he moved to Fingringhoe, near Colchester, with his second wife, Olwen Jones, herself a painter and printmaker. He has enjoyed solo exhibitions in numerous prestigious galleries including Walker Gallery, London; Oldham Art Gallery; Bohun Gallery, Henley on Thames; Bankside Gallery, London (Retrospective); featured artist at The Royal Watercolour Society and many more. His work is also in numerous public collections including: - Victoria and Albert Museum; Walker Art Gallery, Liverpool; Arts Council of Great Britain; National Gallery of South Australia.
BUYER NOTIFICATION:
Glass & Glazing: As per our Shipping Terms (found in the shipping tab below) we do not post glass to prevent the high likelihood of transit damage and also for handlers safety- replacement glass costs just a few pounds and can be easily slipped into the picture on arrival where applicable (i.e. prints & watercolours).
Frames: Because of the fragile nature of picture frames, all frames are offered free with the painting. You are welcome to ask questions about the frame condition before buying but we cannot accept returns or requests for 'part refunds' because a frame arrives with some existing damage not sustained in transit.
