Presented by Northwest artist Don Kennedy, these handcrafted natural stone vases are designed in the tradition of the ancient art of flower arranging called Ikebana. The middle sizes of this style, like this one, will also comfortably hold a standard 1 1/2" tea light, which is a nice option, and means you don't have to put the vase away when you don't have fresh flowers handy.

They are hand carved
from a solid slab of quarried slate using a combination of fifteen different handheld tools, creating one-of-a-kind functional art pieces. This slate comes from the Bitterroot Mountains of Montana. Don travels to the quarry and mines thousands of pounds of stone without benefit of machinery, in order to select pristine pieces with superior color and texture. The terraced edges and sculpted shape are unique to each vase, but you can expect yours to be similar in size, color and quality to one of the vases pictured. The colors are natural, created by iron oxides, sulfides and other minerals which were trapped between the layers of slate, and will enhance any decor.

Natural stone complements the beauty of flowers, providing a sense of harmony and an appreciation of nature’s art. Create a serene ambiance with one or two fresh flowers, or design a stunning arrangement with a dozen flowers and shoots, or even a dried ensemble.

This vase requires minimal care. Feather-dust occasionally and wipe with a damp cloth when needed. The stone surface is completely sealed.

The measurements vary, but average about 8" X  6.5" and roughly 3/4" thick. A sturdy, black plastic reservoir under the stone holds 1 cup of water and acts as a surface-safe base.
