Packaging

This item will be posted in a strong cardboard tube with plastic end caps, the tube is ideal for storing your flute , leave it as it is or decorate the tube for a more personal touch

How it works

Cut into the wood is a mouth piece the Air leaves the mouth piece and enters a slow Air chamber (SAC) where your breath becomes pressurised against a plug then escaping the plug through a  small opening the Air hits the Block also known as a Fetish or Bird it is then forced down a narrow channel where it leaves via the (TSH) true sound hole and meets a knife edge or splitting edge the Air splits over the knife edge just as it enters the main bore of the flute, the splitting Air creates vibrating waves of sound at a pitch according to the length and bore of the flute, finger holes are added - each hole when uncovered effectively becomes the new length of the bore therefore changing the pitch, correct placing and sizing of the holes enables the maker to tune the flute to any desired key.

The finish

The Flute is sanded and sealed inside, the outside is sanded and oiled using a natural oil. The Block is secured using a leather tie.

Maintenance

It couldn't be easier - wet a cloth with a natural oil (sunflower or olive oil are inexpensive and readerly available ) remove the block and rub down the body of the flute with the oil then do the same to the block. do not apply to many layers at one time.

When ?

There is no hard and fast rules here.. Maybe every couple of months or if you think the flute is looking a bit dry..

Never leave your flute in the direct sun.

Do not leave your flute in your car on a hot day.

Adjustments

The leather tie should be secure but not over tight.

The best position for the block is right at the end of the channel or just back from the TSH so you can see a millimetre or two of the Channel to much either way will slightly increase the pitch or cause it to flatten.

Some playing tips

To get started first be advised by the adjustment tips above,

that done with only the third hole down covered and with a steady even breath play your first note the high (F#) now you know the flute works you can proceed by covering each hole in turn top to bottom be sure that there is an air tight seal over each hole. Cover one hole at a time and play the note ..most beginners have trouble with all holes covered as this requires air tight seals over all the holes and you think you have it covered but somewhere there is the smallest leak. NOTE you do not have to press hard use the pads of your fingers not the tips this will make a better seal.

Now make some music

The simplicity of the minor pentatonic scale will surprise most beginners.

After following the above playing tips so your practiced at getting the Air tight seal.

Keeping the third hole down covered at all times put a piece of tape over it if you have trouble with the seal. You will find that as long as all the holes below the note you are playing are uncovered and all the holes above are covered the notes you play will tone beautifully together. Practice lifting one at a time bottom to top then back down, hold some notes longer then others play the note lift your finger then play the same note again before moving to the next just mess about lift two fingers at a time then back to one.

in the shortest time you will discover your own melodies.
