A medium-early variety, with predominantly female flowers;
has parthenocarpic characteristics
(recommended also for greenhouse cultivation). Fruits are shapely, dark
green with very sparse, weakly visible warts. Average fruit length of approx.
12-14cm (5-6 inch), with a small seed chamber, free of bitterness. The variety is
tolerant to downy mildew.
Appropriate place for growing cucumbers should be sunny and
sheltered, the soil fertile, humous and well-drained but at the same time moist
keeping. It should also not contain too much nitrogen. Ideal soil pH for
cucumbers is 6.0-7.2 even though the plants also cope well with slightly lower
pH values. If the soil is very acid liming of the soil is necessary in order to
increase its pH value to 5.8 or more. Cucumbers are thermophilic vegetables,
the most appropriate temperature for them is between 18°C and 30°C, and for
most of them temperature below 10°C is even very harmful. It is worth knowing
that it is not only the air temperature that matters but also the temperature
of the soil in which the cucumbers grow. Therefore, these vegetables yield best
in soils that warm up quickly.
