The soldier has his gun resting on his shoulders, so that his shadow forms a cross. A plow sits in the dirt before him. Between the soldier and the city are demolished walls, trees, bushes, and a rocky landscape. The city is walled and many buildings are visible, including a church with a cross on the top. The painting is framed by a grey border. The title of the piece is printed beneath the image. The artist's signature is written on the lower right. Printed beneath the lower left corner of the print is the manufacturer's name and date: "(c) Esquire, Inc., 1943." Printed beneath the lower right corner of the print: "Painted Especially for Esquire." Condition: good. a light crease mark is slightly visible at the bottom center.
