SWEETHEART Stanley No. 2 Plane - FINE! What a FINE SWEETHEART!! Dates to around 1923. A GREAT LOOKING Plane with a fabulous old Patina. There is no consequential damage of any sort anywhere in the metal or wood, including rusting, pitting or significant chipping, splitting or dinging. There is, however, the start of a seasoning crack in the tote that does not seem to go quite all the way through. Japanning is 97% intact and bright and shiny. Much of the original Stanley blue and orange decal remain on the side of the tote (photos 1 & 2). The Rosewood has a lovely dark patina with "toolbox" dinging and scratching very minimal. The plane has been very lightly cleaned. The brass has NOT been polished. The iron is near full factory length. It is marked with Stanley's "Type AA" SWEETHEART Trade Mark (1923-35). Limited production planes like this Stanley No. 2 are notoriously hard to "type" as they were often assembled in response to special orders and they used whatever parts they had on hand at the time. That said, this plane is basically a "Type 12" dating to around 1923. Take a close look at the photos. This is one GREAT LOOKING old plane. A SCARCE Stanley No.2 in FINE CONDITION.
