About Verner Panton (Designer):

Verner Panton (1926 – 1998) opened his own design office in Bissingen, Switzerland in 1955 and designed the Panton chair in 1959.  However, it was difficult to manufacture until 1967 when processes and materials were developed.  Chair was manufactured for Herman Miller until 1975.  The Panton Chair is in the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art.  Panton designed many other pieces of furniture, lighting, textiles and carpets through his life.
