TROOPING THE COLOUR 2012 BY 1ST BN COLDSTREAM GUARDS DVD

THE FULL PARADE WITH COMMENTARY.

This year sees the 1st Battalion Coldstream Guards Troop its Colour for the first time since 1999.

Those taking part this year are the 1st Battalion Coldstream Guards who find No 1 Guard (Escort to the Colour) and No 2 Guard. No 3 Guard is found by 7 Company Coldstream Guards, No 4 Guard by Nijmegen Company Grenadier Guards, No 5 Guard by 1st Bn Irish Guards and No 6 Guard by F Company Scots Guards.  The Battalion were recently awarded new Colours by Her Majesty in Windsor and today marks the 260th Anniversary of Dettingen.  

There are many features this year throughout the broadcast.  Clare Balding visits the horses of the King's Troop Royal Horse Artillery who have been temporarily housed in the underground car park at Wellington Barracks were guns and tack are being cleaned.  She also speaks to the Commanding Officer of the 1st Battalion Coldstream Guards, Lieutenant Colonel Robin Sergeant about the parade.  Clare also speaks to Susan Baines the mother of Colour Sergeant Baines who has the honour of safeguarding the Colour and who in 2010 was awarded the MC.

We see the Battalion drilling in Pirbright on the barrack square under the watchful guidance of Drill Sergeant Neil Fleck.  There are also contributions from LCpl James Parkes, Major Crispin d'Apice, Captain Frederick Wells and again from DSgt Neil Fleck. 

We see 5 Officer Cadets at Sandhurst competing against each other for the honour of becoming the Ensign on todays parade with Hugo Codrington being selected.  We later see him on the drill square for the first time practising.

There are numerous other features including short interviews with many key personalities including The Major General, The Brigade Major, The new Director of Music and more.

There is also a substantial RAF Flypast and members of the Royal Family pay their personal tribute to Her Majesty the Queen and there is also highlights of the Diamond Jubilee  Events. 

The Parade is described by Huw Edwards, Clare Balding, and Robert Hardman with special guest again this year Colonel Ben Farrell MBE.  The run time is approximately 155 minutes.
