Description:
This steel plate engraving is from "Scotland Illustrated"(2vols) by William Beattie, M.D. It was published in 1838, in London by George Virtue, 26, Ivy Lane, Paternoster Row. Illustrated in series of views expressly for this work by Thomas Allom & Co. and engraved by or under the immediate direction of Robert Wallis. The plates are 8x10.33ins. Image area is generally 4.5x7ins. They are printed on heavy, cream colored paper and are blank verso. There is some aging at the edges but plates are otherwise clean.
