NEOVENATOR

Possibly the UK's biggest killer dinosaur. It once roamed the areas of Southern England around 120 million years ago, preying on the herds of Iguanodon and also, I would imagine, the numerous long necked sauropods that were around at this time. It is related to the T-Rex busting Carcharodontosaurus.

FLYING REPTILES

OF THE MESOZOIC

TAPEJARA  IMPERATOR

NAME:

Tapejara

(from a Tupi (an old language spoken by the native people of Brazil) word meaning "the old being")

AGE:

Early/Mid Cretaceous - aprox. 108 million years ago..

LOCATION: Santana Formation.
SIZE:

There are various species of Tapejara, but for it's length (wingspan) – Tapejara grew to around 5 m (over 16 feet).

CONDITION:

This is a replica made from resin and all hand finished (note there might be slight variations in the colours). It is a replica of a Tapejara imperator.

It measures aprox. 35 cm in height by 22 cm wide (for the matrix slab that contains it). This is not a full sized adult skull, but gives you a good representation of the head crest design. The crest itself would have been made of soft tissue, like skin, and thanks to the preservation of the Santana Formation, it was an amazing fossil to have had this level of detail preserved. As these are such exceptional fossils, replicas are the only way of having one for yourself. The purpose of the crest is still a matter of debate, but it is thought that this was used as some sort of sail or an aid in flight. They would have been amazing creatures to see flying!

As these are such RARE fossils and difficult to come by, having a replica of these is one of the best ways to build up your palaeo collection!
