Spectone 151B, reel to reel tape recorder. High quality studio recording.

This is a very rare high quality machine, in excellent condition. There is virtually no headwear, and cosmetically the deck appears to have had very little use.

It has three tape speeds, 3.75, 7.5, and 15 IPS. Three motors, the construction of the valve amplifier is extremely good, and it is obvious on inspection that it was built to last with the minimum amount of trouble. All component parts are easily accessible, with ample room around valves to provide adequate ventilation.

The pre-monitor on/off switch, enables the recording level to be set correctly, before starting the tape and the two panel lights are used as last track used indicators.

The machine also operates in reverse play mode, for upper and lower tracks, which in effect means you do not have to turn the tape over.

An inside inspection reveals that all components and valves are in an almost factory new condition, and again appear to have had very little use at all.

However, it has one small problem that needs rectifying. And that is one rubber idler wheel has perished and needs replacing.there lots of new old stock idler wheels on ebay of various sizes so replacing it is just a matter of measuring the existing perished one.

All other functions work normally, with a great sounding amplifier and speaker, and as I said the heads appear to be in almost perfect condition.

This machine would be capable of producing very high quality recordings and playback due to it's valve amplifier and a high tape speed of 15 IPS.

It is very rare to come across such a machine that has such high regard, in the recording industry.

I know only of one other surviving M-42 model, and it is located in a Texas Sound Recording Museum. So that will give you some idea as to its rarity and desirability.

I have of course intended to source and replace the idler wheel, and to incorporate the machine into my own studio. But due to health and age matters, I simply cannot find the time to conduct a repair.

The machine weighs 50 lb, and therefore will be quite costly to post. But it is possible. So the postage cost within the listing is an approximate price.
