1951 Oil on Board by F. Kelly - 1951 -  Ash Can School technique and subject matter -

From my collection, the oil painting depicts accurately Albany's legendary Red Light District from the turn of the century up to the late 1960's or even perhaps the early 1970's when a great deal of construction eliminated the ecosystem of the area South of the Capital in old Albany.

Anyone from the Capital District around in the 50's or earlier knows exactly what Green Street was all about. Kelly captures the seediness of the enclave quite accurately.

This painting should be in an Albany museum or in the home of an Albany history lover. This is an important historical artifact!
