Why did I do this? The unlocked model does not have any carrier bloat (additional programs installed by Verizon, T-Mobile, etc). Also, with the Samsung S8+, the version of firmware determines how well it will work with your provider! So an unlocked T-Mobile S8+ with the S8+ T-Mobile software will not get all the LTE connections needed for ATT and Verizon (and vice versa). The Unlocked G955U1 model will enable wireless radios and features depending on the SIM card inserted for full compatibility with your chosen wireless carrier! You can also install whatever software you like, keeping your Samsung S8 phone slim and trim.

I did this on my S8 that I have been using for the past 2 months on my service with Cricket wireless (AT&T). Before, even with the T-Mobile unlocked S8 SM-G950U model, I would only get 4G data if I was lucky. Now, after flashing with the Factory Unlocked software, I get full LTE plus data connectivity!

So this phone is BETTER than those that you see that are just "unlocked" and still carrier branded. You need the unlocked firmware to use ALL the wireless bands this phone is capable of!
