This processor is in absolutely NOT an Engineering Sample/Qualification Sample unit - it is a genuine OEM tray part in brand new condition, and has been tested to be 100% functional in a Dell business/professional laptop using the following CPU-, memory-, and video card-intensive benchmarks: Hot CPU Tester (4+ hours), Dell 32-bit Diagnostics (1+ hours), Memtest86 (5+ hours), FreeStone Group's Video Card Stability Test (2+ hours), PassMark Software's BurnInTest Pro (1+ hours), FutureMark Corporation's 3DMark (1+ hours), Dacris Benchmarks (1/2 hour), and more. Additionally, it ran various 'typical' user apps (Internet Explorer, MS Office, PowerDVD, iTunes, etc.) under Windows 7 64-bit for one full day to ensure there was absolutely no hidden anomalous behavior. And to ensure future OS compatibility, it was also tested with a full installation of Windows 10 64-bit and ran flawlessly!

Once the CPU arrives at buyer's location, I absolutely cannot be responsible for what happens to it! NOTE: Many vendors on eBay (and elsewhere) are selling Engineering Sample (ES) and Qualification Sample (QS) versions of Intel Core i3/i5/i7 CPUs. This CPU, and all others for sale by me, are full retail or OEM tray parts - they are never ES/QS parts! Having been an Intel chip designer for a decade, I recommend being very careful when purchasing any of those non-retail/non-OEM processors. They are "samples" for a good reason - they are typically early silicon, have lengthy errata lists, and are essentially known-buggy "alpha" and "beta" versions intended for use by Intel's OEM partners to test in their latest platforms prior to general availability of fully qualified parts. This is why ES/QS parts are cheaper, but as the old adage warns: "You get what you pay for!"

Compatibility Info

Please note that some laptops using older, lower-performing versions of compatible Core 2 Duo or Core 2 Quad CPUs may require a BIOS update to work correctly with this processor (generally available at your laptop manufacturer's web site - example, www.support.dell.com). That said, please be aware that I cannot guarantee compatibility with your particular laptop, nor can I accept liability for improper handling and installation of this processor by you after you've received it. So before purchasing, please confirm that your laptop is compatible by checking your manufacturer's web site. And after receiving the processor, please follow standard ESD (electrostatic discharge) procedures while handling the item!

For best 'thermal' performance, you will want to apply a thin layer of high-quality thermal compound between the CPU and the heat sink (I always use Arctic Silver - this and similar products are available online or at many tech gear retailers), and ensure that the cooling fins on the heat sink are completely free of dust, lint, or any other obstruction. Installation and intelligent application of a fan-control utility like the highly regarded I8KFanGUI program is also a great idea.

Warranty and Return Info

The 30-day warranty included with this CPU only covers defects in the item itself and is limited to...

Replacement of the part with one of similar type/quality if available,
Repair of the item by seller if possible, or
Refund of the actual item purchase price if a replacement is not available and repair is not possible.

Choice of remedy is at seller's discretion, and buyer is responsible for shipping fees. I accept "buyer's remorse" returns of items in some cases. The returned item must, of course, be in the exact same condition as when originally shipped, returns must be requested within 7 days of receipt of the item, and there will generally be a "restocking" fee of 18-20% of the total sale price including shipping.
