Designed primarily for professional music recording, broadcast, film and video production and postproduction, and mastering applications, the DA-98HR represents the most advanced tape based multitrack recorder yet developed.
The enhanced functionality of the DA-98HR over all previous tape based MDM designs includes selectable 16-bit or 24-bit high resolution eight track recording at 48kHz sampling rate, 24-bit 4-track recording at 88.1 or 96kHz, or 2-track recording at 176.2 or 192kHz, without loss of recording time.
The unit comes equipped with a full complement of on-board sync and chase features required for high end post production applications, including on-board SMPTE synchronizer, 8-channel AES/EBU and TDIF digital I/O and an internal digital patch bay. All unique features of its DA-98 (16-bit) predecessor have been retained on the DA-98HR, including Off Tape Confidence Monitoring, RS-422 port with improved SONY P2 protocol, front panel access to all machine set-up parameters, a menu-driven control environment, comprehensive LCD display screen, self-illuminated transport controls, individual input monitor switches and switchable reference levels.
The optional IF-AN98 8-channel analogue I/O card offers the highest possible standard of 24-bit AD/DA conversion circuitry. The addition of a PLL circuit to both the DAC and ADC, use of OS-CON (OS-CON is well-known for huge capacitance, low Equivalent Serial Resistance, long life, as well as excellent high-frequency and temperature characteristics) and a switchable Low Pass Filter at either Hi-Fs or Standard Fs, ensure exemplary sound quality. Audio performance includes a signal-to-noise and THD performance of greater than 110dB and less than 0.002%, respectively.
Auto punch with 0.1 frame accuracy, on-tape data memory for set-up information, machine offset to sub-frame accuracy, internal tone generator with selectable reference levels, track-slip from -200 to +7200 samples, Word Sync In/Out/Thru, Video In/Thru and synchronized operation of up to 16 units (128 tracks), are also featured.
