For sale Superb 1993 Mercedes 200TE owned by Mercedes owners club member.

I have owned this car for nearly a year and bought it off a fellow club member who had previously owned the car for 7 years. He had cherished the car and ensured that it was kept in the best condition possible as I have.

He had the car serviced according to schedule and had the front wings replaced with genuine Mercedes Benz ones (not cheaper copies) and the front re-sprayed at a cost of £1400. For those of you who know these cars rust on the wheel arches is very common and most cars have not had this issue addressed.

The car is MOT’d til 20/03/2012 and taxed 30th March 2012 and comes with all old MOT’s going back to 1997.

The car also comes with invoices totalling £5042 for all work carried out.

It comes with the original Mercedes data card, all the service booklets and manuals and one on the most comprehensive service histories I have seen.

In total 29 service stamps. This shows how well the car has been looked after and reflects in its condition and how it drives.

These cars were some of the best engineered by Mercedes but as always many have not been maintained correctly or according to schedule.  Many have also led very hard lives and this is reflected in the way they drive.

The car’s condition is superb for its age. The bodywork as can be seen in the pictures looks stunning. There is no rust anywhere. The only area where there is some micro blistering is very small area on one the lips of the front wheel arches. This is only noticeable on close inspection and in no way detracts from the appearance of the car. The other three wheel arches are completely blemish free and the rest of the car has no evidence of rust at all.

The alloy wheels were refurbished nearly a year ago at a cost of £300 and look as new. They are completely unmarked. All of the tyres have plenty of tread left.

Inside the interior again is in fantastic condition. The carpets and seats look like new. The car comes with original Mercedes Benz ribbed over mats. The wood veneer and dashboard are in excellent condition and everything works as it should.  The car has an electric tilt and slide sunroof, front electric windows and rear manual windows.

The loading bay area again is in great condition with unmarked carpets and the option of 2 extra seats that retract. The car comes with a dog guard and retractable luggage guard.

All in all the interior and exterior are as good as you will find on one of these cars and I would say the condition of the car makes it one of the best available.

On the road the car drives as it should. The engine is smooth and the gearbox is sharp and crisp with smooth changes. It accelerates sharply in kick down and shows no signs of sluggishness.

The brakes are sharp and the steering is precise. Having owned 5 W124’s from saloons to coupes it is easy to tell when they don’t drive right. A good W124 still feels modern and drives really easily with smooth gear changes and supple suspension. In terms of economy the 2.0 engine is surprisingly frugal and returns 35mpg plus on a good run.

These cars are considered one of the best estates ever made and it is easy to see why. The build quality and materials used is just second to none. The mechanics are very straight forward and as long as properly serviced the engines just seem to go on and on. Of all the W124’s that I have owned I have never had any mechanical issues with any of them.

The car still exudes a timeless class and in my opinion is a viable alternative to many newer estates.

I have used this car as a third car only to take my children to school in the mornings (I have a two seat roadster as my everyday car) and to take to Mercedes Benz classic car shows over the summer. It has never let me down and has been totally reliable starting without fail every time.

The only reason that I am selling is to fund the purchase of a 1970’s S class which I will use as my practical/hobby car.

I will miss the car and would like it to go to a fellow enthusiast. Bear in mind that lower mileage examples as good as mine are touted by specialist Mercedes dealers for well over £5,000.

Obviously I am not expecting that much but what I would say is that these cars can be bought for as little as a £1000 but you will easily spent that again getting it to a reasonable standard which won’t be as good as mine.
