 silent film career included films for director D.W. Griffith: The Birth of a Nation
(1915), Intolerance (1916), The White Rose (1923). 

She became a favorite of director
John Ford: How Green Was My Valley (1941), The Robe (1953), The Searchers (1956).
 


Born: 1894, Madrid, New Mexico; died: 1969, Hermosa Beach, California.
