We have up for auction an antique Fur Trade Dagger Knife with a Sheffield Blade. The Dagger is about 10 and 1/4 inches long with a 6 inch long blade that is an inch wide and was no doubt made from a file as you can see in our pictures above. The Dagger blade is stamped Charles Cammel & Co, Cyclops Works, Sheffield but not easy to read and it was made in the 1850s before the Civil War began. Take a good look at our pictures above and you can still see the words on the blade although worn and faded but to be expected after 150 years. The blade is still sharp on both sides with a typical Fur Trade handle that is wood with a large decorated lead ferrule. The Sheffield blade may of come with another handle at one time and was changed for some reason but we will never know for sure and this gives the dagger even more character because most fur trade blades were not marked and very few had quality Sheffield blades.............
This was no doubt a nasty weapon used for stabbing or slashing an enemy and not for cutting up food. You have to look close to see the words on the blade but they are there guaranteed or your money back. Was not an easy knife to let go but would make a super knife for your beaded or tacked Indian sheath or for your collection..............
