This sale is for a
vintage FULL SUEDE LEATHER edition entitled “In Memoriam,” by Alfred Lord
Tennyson, with an analysis by the Rev. F. W. Robertson, an Introduction by
Alice Meynell and a frontispiece portrait of Tennyson.
It was published
by Blackie & Son Ld., of
Alfred Tennyson (1809-1892) succeeded William Wordsworth as Poet
Laureate in 1850 and is regarded as the chief representative of poetry in the
Victorian age. His poetic career
extended longer than this – a 60 year period.
No single event influenced it more than the death in 1833 of his friend Arthur
Hallam, who died suddenly in
The book measures 6.3
inches x 4.25 inches and has 232 pages, which are gilt edged to the tops and
hand-cut to the side rims.
The book is in very
good neat condition for a softback of its age, with minor wear/fading to the
suede leather limp cover, with a previous owner’s gift inscription at the front
and no other ink or pencil markings in the book.
