ABOUT THE IRIDIUM AND OTHER SATELLITE SYSTEMS
This phone uses the Iridum Satellite phone system.  It is the only system that will work pole to pole any where in the world on land, sea or air.

Be careful of non-iridium systems - they can require larger equipment and power supplies.  They also do not necessarily work all day and every where in Australia as satellites pass over.  Sometimes you need satellite time maps to see what time the satellite is where and where to point your phone.  None of this is a problem with Iridium.

Iridium phones are much simpler and more reliable.  They will work anywhere any time as long as there is line of site to the sky.  EG you cant be inside, under lots of trees or in a city amongst tall buildings that will block the signal.  They may also have trouble working in gullies or valleys in mountain ranges where there is obscured line of site to the sky.

If you're buying a satellite phone for emergency purposes for a trip to the outback or a rural area and need to be able to make or receive a call immediately, Iridium is the way to go.
