A rare Baxter print, in excellent condition.

It is a curious scene called 'See saw Margery Daw' and depicts a little girl in a green dress leaning on a tilted chair. She has an indistinctly labelled jar under her arm and is holding out a spoonful of something. A jackdaw is perched on the back of the jar eyeing up the contents of the spoon.  Most descriptions I have seen assume that it is food in the jar and the spoon however I think it something small and bright, such as buttons - hence the jackdaw's interest as they are well known for being attracted to such objects.

Not visibly signed but it may be hidden below the mount.

Well presented with an complementary coloured mount within a black and gilt frame. The frame is also in very good condition.  Clean and tidy verso, glazed and ready to hang.

Measures 26 x 20cm including the frame. The image only is 15 x 10cm.

Postage in the UK will be £4, to mainland Europe will be £8 and to the USA will be £12.

George Baxter significantly advanced the art of printing by developing a process to add colours. Taking a steel engraved plate, the 'key plate'  which was printed in a neutral colour, wooden blocks were then created, usually one block for each colour which were than added by hand to the base print.  Each colour was applied and allowed to dry separately before the next colour was added. Each Baxter print is therefore a little work of art.
