Large Bronze Bust of Winston Churchill on Solid Marble Base - 33cm High

This is a genuine hot cast bronze bust of Winston Churchill.  The piece is finished on a round polished solid marble base and overall stands 33.5cm high, the base diameter is 14cm.  Churchill is shown in familiar attire and the face bears a true likeness.

Sir Winston Leonard Spencer-Churchill, KG, OM, CH, TD, PC, DL, FRS (30 November 1874 – 24 January 1965) was a British politician and statesman known for his leadership of the United Kingdom during the Second World War (World War II). He is widely regarded as one of the great wartime leaders. He served as Prime Minister twice (1940–45 and 1951–55). A noted statesman and orator, Churchill was also an officer in the British Army, a historian, a writer, and an artist. To date, he is the only British prime minister to have received the Nobel Prize in Literature, and he was the first person to be made an honorary citizen of the United States.

Churchill was born into the aristocratic family of the Dukes of Marlborough. His father, Lord Randolph Churchill, was a charismatic politician who served as Chancellor of the Exchequer; his mother, Jenny Jerome, an American socialite. As a young army officer, he saw action in British India, the Sudan and the Second Boer War. He gained fame as a war correspondent and through books he wrote about his campaigns.

At the forefront of politics for fifty years, he held many political and cabinet positions. Before World War I, he served as President of the Board of Trade, Home Secretary and First Lord of the Admiralty as part of the Asquith Liberal government. During the war, he continued as First Lord of the Admiralty until the disastrous Gallipoli Campaign, which he had sponsored, caused his departure from government. He then served briefly on the Western Front, commanding the 6th Battalion of the Royal Scots Fusiliers. He returned to government as Minister of Munitions, Secretary of State for War, and Secretary of State for Air. After the War, Churchill served as Chancellor of the Exchequer in the Conservative (Baldwin) government of 1924–29, controversially returning the pound sterling in 1925 to the gold standard at its pre-War parity, a move widely seen as creating deflationary pressure on the UK economy. Also controversial were Churchill's opposition to increased home rule for India, and his resistance to the 1936 abdication of Edward VIII.

Out of office and politically "in the wilderness" during the 1930s, Churchill took the lead in warning about the danger from Hitler and in campaigning for rearmament. On the outbreak of World War II, he was again appointed First Lord of the Admiralty. Following the resignation of Neville Chamberlain on 10 May 1940, Churchill became Prime Minister. His steadfast refusal to consider defeat, surrender or a compromise peace helped inspire British resistance, especially during the difficult early days of the War when Britain stood alone in its active opposition to Hitler. Churchill was particularly noted for his speeches and radio broadcasts, which helped inspire the British people. He led Britain as Prime Minister until victory had been secured over Nazi Germany.

After the Conservative Party lost the 1945 election, he became Leader of the Opposition. In 1951, he again became Prime Minister, before retiring in 1955. Upon his death, The Queen granted him the honour of a state funeral, which saw one of the largest assemblies of world statesmen ever.

On items that are sent with couriers we state a despatch time of 2 business days, however where possible we will send your item on the day or day after you pay. We employ a small team of dedicated 'packers', their aim is to ensure that every item they despatch arrives with its new owner in the same condition it leaves us. We spend a small fortune every week on professional packaging materials and prefer to 'overpack' something so that it arrives undamaged rather than your new purchase arriving damaged. We have experience of sending fragile goods to every corner of the globe so rest assured that whatever you purchase will arrive in the condition it should.

We have contracts with both Parcelforce & Home Delivery Network and we also use Royal Mail for smaller items. For larger items weighing over 30kg we have a network of small independent courier companies who specialise in handling fragile & expensive goods. On occasion, if necessary, we also deliver goods personally if we feel that it will be more economical or if we are concerned about the item arriving to you in top condition. We are happy to ship to anywhere in the world but please understand shipping costs vary greatly from country to country. If buying from overseas please be aware that an item not weighing a great deal will be priced according to its ' volumetric weight ' so the size of the box it is packed in will determine the cost of the shipping. Often, when shipping overseas it is far more practical to purchase more than one item at a time as we are happy to package together wherever possible to make the shipping quote more bearable.

We have contracts with Parcelforce Worldwide and we pass on our discounted rate to make savings for you, we have an excellent ' 30kg deal' to many European Countries where we pay a set price for a box up to 30kg of weight so feel free to buy a few items and build your own box. We are happy to ship large items such as furniture overseas but these require specific quotes so please provide your address details and ask before bidding.

PLEASE NOTE: Northern Ireland, the Scottish Isles, the Scottish Highlands, the Channel Islands, Isle of Man, Scilly Isles and BFPO do not apply to the postage condition set above. Please contact us for a quote before purchasing.

Returns Info

We only accept returns if your item arrives damaged or not as we have described. Returns postage is the responsibility of the buyer. Included with your order you should find a letter detailing all of our contact and returns address information. If for any reason you are not 100% happy with your item when you receive it, please contact us on the telephone number provided and we will do our upmost to resolve your problem.
