I recently inherited some miscellaneous guitar parts that I had high hopes of playing around with. (Check my other listings for more of these parts.)
One of those was this Washburn WG series 7 string neck that’s been factory set to the Buzz Feiten tuning system.
Here’s where it gets bizarre and downright painful:
Some jackass of epic proportions decided to scallop the fretboard. This gifted “luthier” scalloped way, way, way too deep! I’m talking 3-4 times deeper than even the deepest scallops. This hackjob makes the new model Malmsteen deep scallop strat seem like a fretless bass compared to this. We’re talking down to the bottom of the fretboard.
HOWEVER…
That being said, the rest of the neck is in fine shape. It’s good, solid stock!
What it needs is a real repairman to replace the fretboard, which will result in a very, very nice solid 7 string neck.
This is from the WG-587 Series guitars that Washburn put out years ago which were some solid, solid 7 string guitars!
Long story short, I was going to have Lay’s Guitar (Akron, Ohio) restore the neck, but…
…realistically, I just don’t have the time to put together parts guitars, so someone out there who’s handy can probably whip up a decent inexpensive 7 string guitar.
Sorry for the long rant, but detailed description is required.
(Incidentally, another neck that I have for sale {a 1978 Fender Strat neck) has the same “scallop job,” so it’s a logical conclusion to assume the same “master” had his way with this as well. I inherited a batch of different parts from the same source, so it’s highly probable that the majority of them came from the same place.)
