#R5 VINTAGE 1960's Black COX Mark 4 with 15 ohm resistor, SLOT CAR CONTROLLER.
NOTE: Look at pics for close-up views.
Scarce Original 1960 Mark 4 (mark IV) 15 Ohm Ruby Red Hand Controller by COX Mfg #3450 1/24th scale 1/24 scale.
This controller outperforms and outsells all others in its
class. The black pistol grip handle is comfortable to hold and is amply vented
for rapid heat dissipation. A 15 OHM taper wound resistor permits smooth
acceleration and response. Plunger is thumb actuated and has a
silver-impregnated graphite brush slider for maximum electrical and mechanical
efficiency. Cooling fins on the plunger shaft maximize heat dissipation. A
flexible and easily replaced fuse wire protects the resistor from burnout
resulting from improper hookup. Connecting cable terminates in color coded wire
leads and alligator clips. A flexible cord protector minimizes chafing and wear
of cable where it passed through the controller case.

How to Pick the Right Controller
The controller has an enormous job to do--control the car, and
absorb or dissipate the heat generated by its resistance. Since all motors vary
in the amount or resistance in the armature, the same controller is available in
varying OHM ratings.
The rule of thumb is: the HOTTER the motor, the lower OHM rating
controllers work best. HO cars, 1/32 cars in sets and some older 1/32 and 1/24
car kit cars use medium to high OHM controllers. The latest motors and rewinds
use the 15 OHM rated units.
The following chart suggests what motors will operate best on what
OHM controllers. You can work from there.
15 OHMS or less:
Can type 300B, 500B, 600B, Pittman DC84, DC65-6 volt, Kemtron 6
volts, K & B Super Challenger, Atlas 6 volt, Glove SS-91, and similar "hot"
motors and rewinds.
25 OHMS or less:
Pittman DCI96B, Can type 600A, Kemtron 8-10 volts, Strombecker
Avenger, K & B Challenger, Strombecker Devastator, Pittman DC706, Ram 850,
426, Strombecker Destroyer, Hustler and similar motors including 1/32 - 1/24
scale car kits.
Over 45 OHMS:
Strombecker Scuttler, Pittman DC 65-12, Wilson 876-13, Kemtron
12-18 volt motors, all 12-18 volt motors in 1/32 & 1/24 scale ready to run
sets. The "normal" type motors for long, smooth, dependable
operation.
85 OHMS:
For HO cars of all types.
OLD STOCK, MADE IN THE 1960'S.
Will fit 1/32nd, 1/24th & 1/25th scale. Very cool and rare find.

Cox
The greatest name in vintage slot cars collecting. Cox built the best quality cars and kits from 1964 to 1969 and today's collectors appreciate that quality. Cox sold their cars in RTR and kit form as well as parts. Body and chassis kits, wheels, tires, motors, axles, guides and gears were all sold separately. The kits are especially cherished but the factory-assembled RTR cars in their original boxes are also highly valued. A Blue Chip invesment.
