Offered for sale is a pair of solid sterling silver cuff links in the form of skulls with articulated moving jaws connected by links to their cross bone formed backs. These cuff links embody the ancient concept of “Memento Mori”, “Remember Death”, remember you are mortal and will die. This instrument of “remembrance”, these cuff links, are not meant to terrify but to remind the wearer that they should make the most of their life, that life  is short, don’t squander the time we have. In antiquity, and it the not to distant past, Death was ever present, people died far younger and epidemics took greater numbers than they do today. This symbol, Memento Mori, manifested itself in the past in many ways. It was seen in jewelry, art, literature and religion. This symbolism has fallen out of favor in the modern world due to our denial of death but we all still die and it still speaks to us, just maybe later in life than it did in the past.
