RARE VINTAGE EGYPTIAN SOLID SILVER GRADE 800 CIGARETTE OR CARD CASE - ENGRAVING OF ANCIENT EGYPTIAN MALE & FEMALE FIGURE UNDER LOTUS FLOWERS ON FRONT - SET OF HIEROGLYPHICS UNDERNEATH IMAGE - GILT INTERIOR & METAL RETAINER STRAPS - GREAT GIFT!

On offer is this rare vintage Egyptian 800 grade solid silver cigarette or card case. We have not been able to find another like it.

On the front, a scene from ancient Egypt is engraved. This is of a male and female figure sitting beneath two lotus flowers. At the base, there is a set of hieroglyphics. We do not know what it reads as our knowledge of hieroglyphics remains non-existent …

The interior is gilt-lined with two metal retainer straps in place. The hallmarks are on the clasp: "800" for the grade of silver; what appears to be the date letter/maker's mark/place of assay in Arabic in the middle; followed by the lotus flower. The latter signifies that the case was crafted after 1946 which is when this symbol for Egyptian silver was introduced. We believe it probably dates to the 1960s/70s.

In good condition overall, you can imagine what a super gift this unusual case would be for you to give, particularly for somebody with a connection with Egypt or a working knowledge of conversational hieroglyphics …

APPROXIMATE MEASUREMENTS/WEIGHT: It is about 8.5cm by 4.5cm with a depth of 1cm and weighs 51g.

CONDITION: The case is in good condition overall. There are the usual surface marks common to silver as it is a very soft metal, some dints and dings here and there. The gilt-lined interior is intact with some staining, which you can see on the photos. The clasp and hinge are in good order and it opens and closes fine. Any dark areas, etc are reflections or bits of age-related patina.

This is an intriguing piece of grade 800 solid silver Egyptian cigarette or card case. With an eye-catching design engraved on the front, you can imagine what an unusual, thoughtful gift this would be for you to give - nobody else will have anything like it!
