For Auction....a 1870-1890 Native Alaska Tlingit Spruce Root Woven Hat...untouched,an impressive hand woven basketry hat comprised of twined spruce root with a tall cylindrical crown and wide rim ,hand painted with stylized sea creature, eyes and mouth on the front rim,a tail on the back and flippers on the sides-all outlined in black with the forms filled in with periwinkle blue,forest green and russet red brown hues .The crown painted as well in periwinkle blue and the ground in natural finish. the condition of the hat is near perfect. (See Pics).....the hat measures approximately 17 by 10 inches.
