Pearl Custom Classic Solid Shell Snare Drum 5.5x14 Liquid Amber Lacquer w/Brass Plated Hardware and Solid Brass 2mm Hoops and One-Piece 7.5mm Maple Shell. This drum has a beautiful, FAT, warm sound that is very pleasant to the ears. I have owned quite a few of these pretty rare solid shell drums and they have all been excellent. This one seems to be even more so with a super Fat tone that never gets thin, no matter how you tune it. It sounds great low, medium, and high...very few drums can do that. This one has something very special sonically that is immediately obvious. It is a great drum for both recording and live work and won't disappoint. The Liquid Amber lacquer is gorgeous and the shell is in great shape as is the hardware, but there is some tarnishing to the brass plating in spots and this is normal for these drums. This drum was made in 1990 and is a testament to the high quality Pearl was putting out back then with unique innovation. This is a solid maple drum without reinforcement hoops which really opens up the sound. Pearl made them using microwave ovens (instead of steam bending, which introduces moisture) and they found that the drums were so stable that they didn't need reinforcement hoops. The bearing edges are beautiful and the drum is completely original, with exception to the heads and snare wires.
