Robert Graves (who knew that his full name was Robert von Ranke Graves!) was an English, classicist, novelist and poet. At the outbreak of the First World War he enlisted in the army and developed an early reputation as a war poet, being one of the first to write realistic poems about experience of frontline conflict. During his long life he produced more than 140 works and is well known for his rendering of The Greek Myths and, in particular for his historical novels such as I, Claudius and Claudius the God which were turned into the very popular television series shown (and still re-run) in both Britain and United States. He also was a prominent translator of Classical Latin and ancient Greek texts.
