Premiering in 1999, the 28-70mm f/2.8D was one of the first lenses to carry Nikon’s new focusing technology, the Silent Wave Motor (AF-S). The lens was replaced in 2007 by the AF-S 24-70mm f/2.8. Optically this lens offers clean, unmarked glass and optical coatings front and rear. Cosmetically it carries the marks of normal use but no signs of abuse or damage. It ships with front and rear lens caps and HB-19 replacement lens hood.
A lens aimed squarely at the professional market, the AF-S ED 28-70mm f/2.8D has a robust build quality and the heft you expect from a top of the line professional Nikon product. With a near focus under 2.5ft, it is a good alternative for portraits on 35mm film and FX or DX digital SLRs. The constant f/2.8 maximum aperture makes it perfect of shooting in low light and the wide field of view is an added advantage in tight spaces.
