In this example, the dial (signed 'Omega'; 'Automatic'; 'Seamaster DeVille' and 'Swiss Made') is in good original condition in a very handsome brushed steel finish with some marks visible. Please note that this watch is currently with my watchmaker for service and it will be cosmetically improved in the process with a thorough cleaning and polishing.

The dial is mounted with hand rivetted raised steel index bar hour markers with its original matching steel stick hands and smoothly sweeping full face steel second hand.

The watch measures 34mm in diameter excluding the crown and the lug width is 18mm.

The 56X series of mechanical movements is considered by many to be among the most robust and reliable ever made by the Omega Watch Company. The high level of finishing, swan neck regulator and evolutionary design improvements of the early Omega 500 series movements result in a calibre capable of meeting and exceeding chronometer specifications easily when correctly maintained, even if not technically certified.

This Grade 1 Calibre 562, 24 jewel automatic date example is in quite exceptional condition, pristine and runs smoothly having been fully stripped down, cleaned, oiled, serviced and warranted for a full 12 months by an accredited watchmaker with over 40 years experience. Please see the photographs which are of the actual movement - you will not believe it is over 50 years old and this picture was taken before servicing!.

This outstanding self-winding example of the master watchmaker's craft will give many years of untroubled service beyond the warranty period. The '1' numeral in brackets above the calibre number on the movement indicates a Grade 1 movement, as identified by the manufacturer.

The movement is signed 'Omega Watch Co. Swiss'; '24 jewels' and logo'd '562'(1) as you would expect. The serial number 18,xxx,xxx dates this watch to around 1962.

The stainless steel monocoque case (also known as unishell, which opens from the front) with stainless steel bezel and steel lugs is in decent order with some unfortunate tool marks currently visible (but bear in mind please that it will have been professionally sympathetically cleaned and polished to restore it to its best possible condition prior to dispatch). The caseback of course bears the famous Hippocampus logo and is signed 'Seamaster' and 'Waterproof'.

The inside of the caseback is signed 'Omega Watch Company'; 'Fab Suisse' and 14770 2SC which, together with the movement serial number, dates the watch accurately to 1962.

Please see below an extract from Omega's vintage database pertinent to this case reference (in this case the database extract refers to the mechanically identical solid gold version - the database is notoriously incomplete and does not include the steel version).

The movement adjusts perfectly from the signed original Omega knurled stainless steel crown.

This lovely old timepiece is supplied with a brand new black padded leather Omega strap with stainless steel Omega buckle which sets off the features beautifully and look stunning on the wrist.
