C2 On September 4, 1918 air mail cover from New York to Chicago. Pathfinder trip to begin establishment of air mail service between New York and Chicago, with various interim stops. This cover is postmarked in New York with a postmark similar to those used on May 15 first flights, what the AAMC calls "circular cancel in magenta." Both flights on this service had difficulties, though you can identify this cover as being flown by Max Miller, using the September 6, 8 PM, Chicago backstamp. Edward Gardner's flight didn't arrive until the 7th. American Air Mail Catalog / U.S. Governmental Flights 108a. CONDITION: Very Good/Fine. Slit open at top. Some postmark ink smudging and an erased pencil note, maybe from a delivery attempt, at left. A little soiling/discoloration on reverse, mainly near edges, which have a little more wear. Some wear and toning.
SALES TAX IS COLLECTED ON SHIPMENTS TO NEW JERSEY INTERNATIONAL BUYERS-PLEASE NOTE:
