NO RESERVE. 1/43 1958 Porsche 356 Open Top Speedster 1600 Super #71 with unframed windscreen owned and driven by Steve McQueen and still in the McQueen Family. Model represents the car as McQueen drove it to win its class in a 1959 event at Santa Barbara.

Both an internationally-known movie star and an avid motorcycle and automobile racing driver, McQueen once said of himself, "I'm not sure whether I'm an actor who races or a racer who acts.' Although he owned many great cars in his life, the only car that he kept that remains in his family is his black 1958 Porsche 356 Speedster 1600 Super represented by this model and which is still owned by his son Carl.

The car is especially significant because it was the fist car he purchased new and was the first one he raced in organized motorsports. Interestingly, as his acting commitments increased in the late 1960s he had less time for racing and ended up selling the car to a Bruce Meyer, only to persuaded Meyer to sell it back to him about 7 years later. Since his son Carl has owned the car, it's been restored to its original specifications.

Note that the model's base and box label do not mention McQueen's full name or his win in it at Santa Barbara but only identify the model as "Porsche 356 Speedster 'Steve's Speedster'". The additional information given above was found by us at various sites on the Internet.
