Ensure that the rubber mould is cleaned with soapy water and dried thoroughly before use. Mix equal parts of flowerpaste and sugerpaste and roll out to about 1.5mm thick. The size of strip should be slightly greater in size then the bottom part of the mould. Dust both sides of the paste with cornflower and place the paste into the bottom part of the mould ensuring that it overlaps past the pattern. Tap the paste gently all over with your fingertips until you start to see an impression forming of the lace pattern on the paste. Place the top part of the mould on top of the paste and press down all over evenly. Hold down the top with your fingers while carefully ripping the paste along all edges. This will remove most of the excess material. Remove the lid. Gently remove the lace strip from the bottom part of the mould ensuring that you do not over stretch it. Place the lace strip on a flat board and using a small diameter cutting wheel trim any excess paste all around the outside edge. Using edible powder colours, dust to achieve the required coloured effect. Your strip lace is now ready to be placed on your cake. On the back face of the lace, paint sparingly with food grade glue. Attach this to the cake and leave to dry. Make further lace strips as above, joining end to end until you have completed the process around the cake.
