Brooch

A fantastic vintage brooch, the likes of which I have not seen previously during my years and years of collecting. The brooch is quite beautiful having a bakelite slap which has a straight top edge with either side running outwards slightly before turning and meeting the opposite side in a point at the centre, bottom. The bakelite is probably deeper at the centre of the brooch as the sides have been polished so they drop away and do not form a definite edge. The bakelite is light spinach green with marbling in brown and orche colours. On the bakelite there is a beautiful young woman. Her hair is curled all over and it stands out from the head. The face is very well detailed with eye area, nose and mouth all having shape and form which creates a 3D effect (not flat). The head and hair are made from some kind of metal and have been gilded. Her mouth is slightly open and there is just the slightest touch of red on the lips. There is a gap at the top where the hair parts and when you look into this, which is not easy, you will see a metal bar on either side which is supporting the head. This gives substance to my theory about the bakelite being thicker in the centre because there is no evidence on the back for rivets which I would have expected to see. On the back there is a metal bar which is riveted to the bakelite and which supports the pin. The clasp is a C type but it has a forked tongue, so to speak. The clasp does show wear and age which must be expected. I am dating this to the art deco period. A gorgeous brooch which could be unique. In very good to excellent vintage condition. I see no obvious faults.
