Kinex Measuring Starter Set

To produce accurate joinery efficiently there are lots things that you need to get right; preparing the timber accurately, putting the line in the right place, marking the waste, not crossing the lines, and checking your work at each stage before moving on. Getting to the end and realising that the fit is poor because your pound shop engineers square isn't quite square is utterly soul destroying.

Kinex marking and measuring instruments are carefully made in small batches to ensure accuracy, reliability, and conformity to rigorous German DIN standards. They are not a hugely well known brand yet, so you are not paying for the name, but by delivering dependable quality and accuracy they are going the right way about building that reputation.

 The set includes:

Kinex DIN875/0 Engineers' Marking Square 100 x 70mm
A nice manageable size for laying out joinery, always register the stock against the face side or edge.
Square to 7 microns (0.00028")

Rotring 0.7mm Propelling Pencil
0.7mm leads are less prone to breaking than 0.5's, and B's (as opposed to HB) make a nice dark visible mark when writing on wood.

Kinex Class 1 300mm Engineers Rule
Non-reflective surface and precision ground edges for easy reading with clear, deeply etched, metric graduations, whole mm on one edge, half mm on the other, conversion tables on reverse.

Pocket Lab Grade Inspection Knife Edge Square
Milled from a single block of steel, knife edged squares are stable and extremely accurate. Within a workshop there has to be a 'source' from which squareness originates, this tool is only ever used for inspecting the squareness of other objects, not marking out.
Square to 3 microns (0.00012")

You will need a marking knife or a scalpel as well, but choosing one involves quite a bit of personal preference, so we have left that as a separate decision. If bought individually the contents of this set would cost £66.50.
