Maryland "Classic" Guitar Manufacturer was the Micro Frets Company. Micro-Frets was a small US-based guitar manufacturer that built these incredible guitars from '67-'74.
The founder, Ralph Jones, was an engineer who decided to optimize and innovate the electric guitars of the time. His designs were extremely influential and showed up in many modern guitars. Micro-Frets made approximately 4000 guitars during their entire existence. The factory was run by musicians and guitar technicians so their designs were constantly evolving. The Micro Frets Company made virtually all their own hardware... including innovative bridge and nut systems.
This Calibra's finish is a stunning translucent red. It's an incredibly beautiful "Style 3" era model from Micro-frets. The details are sweet; check out the two-tiered pick guard with a transparent top layer with Micro Frets logo on it!
Depeche Mode's Martin Gore used a Micro Frets "Spacetone", Mark Farner a "Signature" and Carl Perkins a "Calibra". By listing Martin Gore, Mark Farner & Carl Perkins in the same sentence... you can get a sense of the very wide range of players who used these amazing instruments.
