VAN GOGH "STARRY NIGHT" STAINED ART GLASS WINDOW PANEL HANGING DISPLAY

Vincent van Gogh (1853-1890) was born in the Netherlands, the son of a Dutch Reformed minister and a bookseller's daughter.  In his short lifetime, he produced nearly 900 paintings and more than 1100 works on paper.  Van Gogh sold only one painting during his lifetime.  He died prematurely with the sense that his work and life were a complete failure.  Shortly after his death, his work began to receive the praise and acclaim Van Gogh had strived for throughout his life.

  • It measures approximately 13.5" by 11"
  • The glass panel is made with hand applied, high quality, color pigmentation that is kiln fired and fused to the glass in multiple layers creating rich color that will not fade or scratch off.  It is framed in metal with two eyelets to attach the included metal chain for hanging.

Van Gogh's most popular works are from the last two years of his life; a very turbulent and unstable time for him physically and mentally.  It was during this time Van Gogh created Starry Night (1889).  Hospitalized, the painting reflects the view from his window although it is said he painted Starry Night from memory and imagination.  The composition includes the village of Saint Remy, with the church in the center of the village.  Because of his evangelistic propensity, many believe this religious endeavor may be reflected in the eleven stars mentioned in Genesis 37:9.

A very complex individual, Van Gogh used color contrasts to express emotion. His work became an important influence in the early twentieth century and continues to draw art enthusiasts into his world in the modern era.
