Here is one of a number of items which belonged to the Earl of Yarborough Estate ..all of which came in together from a country house estate live auction. Ideal if you are either related to the family or area or you just collect quality antiques.   
Here is an antique ART DECO era sterling silver circular box which has the very BEST enamel hand painted FOX HEAD you have ever seen on the top.... its gorgeous.
Plain silver body and the base has the hallmark Birmingham 1926 with A.L.D. makers marks and two larger intials DQ in a six sided box.... this means DENNISON QUALITY
So now hinge the top of the box up and you see a MIRROR on the underside and a funny little three legged metal plate in the bottom....in the bottom it says Dennison Watch Case Co Ltd ...and a number 1101.
A.L.D. is an easy maker as I sell many pocket watches and wristwatches and sometimes the Sovereign fob watch cases have this maker too DENNISON WATCH CASE CO LTD.

Which is a little bit odd really... as I have NEVER seen an actual Ladies Powder Compact box made by the company... this needs a bit more research....scroll right to the bottom of my description...I have seen adverts for them but I have been unable to see any actual compacts like this one.
There is only 1 person that will know about this A.L.D. - DQ silver box and I await their comments. So I emailed him and he told me this below I quote...
Philip Priestley's book on Dennison  (Ref. 1) contains descriptions of Dennison powder compacts. There were three models, the 200 was for loose powder with puff and mirror, the 150 and 350 models had proprietary inserts of powder, puff and mirror. All models came in 10 year rolled gold or sterling silver, the 150 and 350 also came in 9 carat gold. The lids came in a wide range of engine of engine turned finishes, or enamels of animals on sterling silver. Five enamels are illustrated in the book, a wild duck in flight, an Irish terrier in profile, and heads of an Alsatian dog, a fox terrier and a fox.

This is a rare silver box I wonder how many were ever made... I wonder how many have been scrapped now ...I wonder how many lurk in the bottom of a box or chest of drawers in some of these grand houses and have never seen light of day for years... I wonder how many are in peoples collections and theare oblivious to the Dennison Watch Case Co bit !

The enamel fox head is 3/4 inch wide x nearly as long.
I do not clean my silver items .. they are just as they have come in from the deceased estates.
The box is 2 inch dia x 5/8ths inch deep and it weighs approx.......51grams.

The three legged powder puff  holder item inside does come out so you could use this for something else other than face powder.  
The enamel fox head does have some minor scratch marks and a tiny bit off the enamel on his nose....when looking thru a loope...please do not let this put you off as this is a fabulous antique box.
Ideal pressie for the hunting fraternity folks or the ladies that like to buy unusual Powder Compacts..
 
I have just found a website below.. and it says that in 1922 British Industries Fair the company were making sovereign holders, compass cases and kindred articles as well as what they were well know for ...... then in 1929 another advert they were into coin holders, powder boxes, compasses, and chains as well as watch cases.
