US Army Special Forces advisors deployed to Vietnam in the early 1960s in uniforms unsuited for the vicious guerrilla war awaiting them. They were allowed great leeway in their choice of uniforms and headgear, leading many to wear custom multi-stitch "cowboy" bush hats, usually acquired from local Vietnamese sources. This US Army Vietnam SPECIAL FORCES ADVISOR TIGER STRIPE CAMO COWBOY BUSH HAT is in good condition, with a few small spots of orangish paint staining at each side of the front brim edge, some small spots of orangish paint staining at the left crown, some brownish soiling and orangish paint staining at the back brim, some loose stitching at the back left crown, a good portion of the back left sweatband having come unstitched, some scattered brownish soiling around the crown lining and the underside of the brim, a few small spots of orangish paint staining at the underside of the middle front brim, and with some overall fading and age wear evident (most pictured). Otherwise, the hat is in fine shape, with no other damage to the tough 100% cotton construction. Most interestingly, it's crafted in the French influenced multi-stitch design, retains a good amount of the original custom tiger stripe camouflage colors, and carries an elegant "VIET-NAM" black and gold bevo woven arc at the snap-up right brim. It sports the classic round screened metal ventilation grommets and brown plastic sweatband that distinguish Vietnamese manufacture, boasts a knotted matching tiger stripe camo chinstrap, and is approximately a Size 6 3/4. A fine example of a very rare, original US Army Vietnam SPECIAL FORCES ADVISOR TIGER STRIPE CAMO COWBOY BUSH HAT. Now celebrating over 15 years on eBay.
