is in vermeil (fine 18k gold layer on silver) of a great quality with very few wears inside . It is an interesting religious silversmith's trade
piece which dates around 1850s with a rich Baroque decoration. Observe the hight quality of execution of the cover bowl with the sheaf
of wheat & vines openwork decoration alternating by Holy figures : Jesus, Mary and Saint Paul. Base is designed with 3 repousse
medallions representing theological virtues : Faith, Hope and Charity. Under the medallions they are the instruments of the Passion.
This chalice consists of four knockdown parts wherein three parts are punched with the French sterling silver guarantee.
Base, cover-cup and cup are stamped with the French "Minerva" sterling silver 1st standard mark guarantee (950/1000)
Base and cup are stamped with the maker's mark : Pierre-Henri FAVIER. He practiced from 1847 till 1870 in Paris, 44 Quai des Orfèvres.
Favier was a famous silversmith's family native of Lyon city. They practiced from 1824 till 1976 and were the specialists of Catholic
religious silversmith's trade. Many of their creations are nowadays visible in numerous treasures of cathedrals.
