Description

Hans Wegner Peacock Chair Designed in 1947 and Produced by Johannes Hansen. Chair is Signed with the Johannes Hansen signature. Hans Wegner, mid-century designer of the peacock chair seen here, used negative space just as intensely as positive space in his designs. The beauty of this chair is that its shape is so commonplace, but its details are out of the ordinary. The spokes in the back of the chair are carefully carved in a beautiful arc, and the legs are perfectly splayed beneath the seat. The result is anything but common, and this is a chair that would be a beautiful addition to any style of home. Hans J. Wegner died in Denmark in January 2007

Hans J. Wegner's contributions to Danish design:

A master carpenter first and a designer second: Perfectly finished joints and exquisite forms.

A deep respect for the wood and its character and an everlasting curiosity about good materials.

He gave minimalism an organic and natural softness.

He is considered as "the master chair-maker" and designed more than 500 chairs during the course of his life.

The Peacock Chair is historically anchored in the classic British Windsor Chair. As were the case with many of his early works, Wegner updated his sources of inspiration to a modern version while adding sophistication. HANS J. WEGNER  ...

In his later years Wegner became more attached to PP Møbler (which produces many of pieces originally designed for Johannes Hansen) and for whom he designed several chairs late in his life. He remained active throughout his life
