One of the most important pieces of field gear for GIs and Leathernecks during WW2 was the canteen, providing drinking water from the hot Pacific islands to the embattled towns of the ETO. This US Army USMC Marine WW2 M-1910 OD CANTEEN COVER is in very good condition, with a small nick in the middle front top edge piping, a small spot of fraying at the back right flap and the back left top edge piping, some letters and numbers stenciled in black across the lower back, some light scattered dark spot soiling along the bottom, and with some light overall age wear evident (most pictured). Otherwise, the cover is in fine shape, with no other damage to the tough OD canvas construction. Most interestingly, it's "U.S." stamped with serifs at front, boasts fully functional darkened brass "lift-the-dot" closure flaps, and is marked at the right back with its maker and date, "SHANE MFG. CO. / 1945". It sports a fully intact brass wire hanger at the upper reverse, and is a fine example of a rare, original US Army USMC Marine WW2 M-1910 OD CANTEEN COVER. No canteen or cup included. Now celebrating over 15 years on eBay.
