ANTIQUE KOREAN Hot Pot BRASS Metal
An antique brass Korean hot-pot.
Features ornate inscriptions on the top lid, along with carrying
handles for the lid and the base as well.
We have an antique Korean hot pot.
It is all brass with Korean inscriptions along the base of the
top neck. Integrated into this piece are four carrying handles,
two for the top lid (which comes off) and two on either side
of the base.
Hot pot, less commonly known as Chinese
fondue or steamboat, refers to several East Asian varieties
of stew, consisting of a simmering metal pot of stock at the
center of the dining table. While the hot pot is kept simmering,
ingredients are placed into the pot and are cooked at the table.
Typical hot pot dishes include thinly sliced meat, leafy vegetables,
mushrooms, wontons, egg dumplings, and seafood. This pot was
probably made for single servings.
The Korean hot pot is 6 inches in
diameter and 5 inches in height. Total weight is 1 1/2 pounds.
Overall, this hot pot is in very good
condition. There are some minor dents along the edge of the
lid, and one of the carrying handles is missing from its mounting.
There is a small cut in the base, which may or may not have
been intentional. There is some wear from use on the bottom
of the hot pot (see picture). The writing on the top lid is
in excellent condition.
This Korean antique hot pot is a collectors
item that is still quite functional.
