1840s Green Transferware Dr. Frankin's Maxims Motto Plate


Description

1840's child's motto plate.  Measures 5 1/2" in diameter.  The transfer ware is a teal green displays two country gentlemen in the foreground with cow and sheep.  In the background is a woman seated in front of her home working at her spinning wheel.  Entitled Dr. Franklin's Maxims along with the motto "Ply Pleafure and it will follow you.  The diligent spinner hasa large garment.  Now I have a sheep and a cow.  Everybody bids me good morrow."  The outside border displays embossed raised flowers and beaded edge.  This plate is in very good condition with no chips, cracks - has one tiny flake on backside edge of plate and glaze checking.  Unmarked.  Rare hard to find plate.
