I traveled to Poland 4 times from the 1980's to the Mid 1990's and was fascinated by the sheer number of different cars there. The first time was 1983 driving the pre-war autobahn in the DDR there were virtually no western cars to be seen. My hosts had an older Syrena Bosto and a 126P which we drove to Gdansk. On that trip I saw virtually all of the cars listed here in person.

Later on in my career I was sent by Time Magazine to the region during the time after the fall of the Berlin Wall when all of these nations were gaining independence - travelling south from Trieste Italy and then north from Thessaloniki Greece through Bulgaria, Romania, Albania, Yugoslavia (and all it diverse parts), then Czechoslovakia, back in to Poland where I met my friend again in Zakopane after traveling through the Tatra Mountains. Still there were not many western cars around.
