Description Stunning book presenting historic photographs from an important collection at the Ethnography Museum of Saint Petersburg. The images show young and old women dressed in their traditional folk costumes from various regions of Russia. A remarkable photographic journey back in time to an era when these elaborate costume were still treasured and worn by what were considered to be simple peasant women. The photographs are part of a much larger ethnographic collection created by Natalia Chabelskaya and continued by her two daughters during an era when interest in peasant culture was high and the authentic ways of life were quickly fading. This book presents a number of these stunning photographs and will serve as a welcome reference to anyone interested in Russian costume, culture, and history.
