    Description

Vintage 1969 - 1972 Omega Speedmaster Professional Mark 2.

After the Omega Speedmaster Professional won the race to the Moon in 1969, Omega thought it was time to come up with a watch that perhaps was a bit more up-to-date and ready for the 1970s. Design wise that is, as the watch should be able to withstand the same abuse as the Speedmaster Professional ‘Moonwatch’ could handle. Somewhere in 1969 Omega introduced the Speedmaster Mark II. Actually, a Speedmaster Professional Mark II.

The Speedmaster Mark II came with the same Lemania based movement as the Moonwatch, reference 145.022. This movement is Omega’s caliber 861 and has been in production since 1968 till around 1996 when it was succeeded with the caliber 1861 movement.

This watch is in good honest vintage condition - not polished brushed and restored within an inch of it's life (If you prefer a new looking watch, Omega has just re-released this model with a modern coaxial movement). The face looks excellent. The crystal is mainly scratch free and looks great. There are a few minor chips along the outside edge mainly near the 2 (pictured). The movement and chronograph functions work well. The hands reset to 0 well.

I got the watch from a deceased estate and don't know when it was last serviced. The brother of the previous owner said he was meticulous with his watches and kept the service up to date.

Comes on the pictured stainless steel bracelet marked 1168 on the clasp and 173 at the top. I have been informed the bracelet is a number 1162 with a 1168 clasp.

I really do not want to sell this watch, but my wife, other commitments and common sense made me list it... :-(

We take lots of pictures to show the item in detail. The pictures are part of the description, so please check them out.

With the new eBay fee structure it's no longer economical to list items as auctions. If you are interested, don't be shy, just submit me an offer! I might just accept it.

Some general information about the watches I have listed (also applies to most old watches you see on eBay):
I am not a watchmaker, just a collector of vintage watches. Sometimes I get watches in lots and sell the ones I'm not going to keep in my own collection. Most of my watches are sourced from the original owners and they are original and un-butchered. I do my best to describe them accurately as I see them in front of me at the time of listing. I take detailed pictures of the cosmetic condition (you can enlarge the pictures by clicking on them. You get the full picture size by clicking again - the enlarged pictures usually show every flaw. Mostly the watches look better in real life on the wrist than in the enlarged pictures). The pictures are part of the description.
Unless stated otherwise in the description I don't know the service history of mechanical watches and I have not tried to fit a battery to quartz watches.
Mechanical watches are delicate machines and they should be serviced regularly (usually every 5 to 10 years) to keep them in good working order. If they are old and not serviced recently they may work for another 10 years or they may stop at any time. All I can do is describe the watch accurately, as I see it, at the time of listing. Unless stated otherwise in the description, I test  watches by winding them up and leaving them overnight to see if they work. I cannot give any guarantee that the watch will be the same tomorrow, in a week or in a year. If you intend to wear the watch regularly I recommend you get it serviced by a watchmaker. Old watches, even dive watches, may or may not be water resistant. I suggest you keep them dry just in case, or get them pressure tested by a watchmaker before you go near any water.
Quartz watches that are not working may just need a new battery, but the may also need repairs to the movement. There is now way of telling until you try to fit a battery.
Mechanical watches are not as accurate as modern quartz watches. They may run a little fast or slow and have to be adjusted from time to time.
All watches are sold as is and without any warranty. If you don't agree with the above, please don't bid.
