Yashica FR is a 35mm film SLR camera, made by Yashica and introduced in 1976. The FR and its later offshoot, the FR I, marked the first time that Yashica attempted to compete in the 35mm professional and serious amateur markets.

The FR featured an electronically-operated, horizontal-travel, cloth focal plane shutter with speeds from 1 - 1/1000 sec. It is a manual-focus SLR camera with manually set exposure controls, and aperture and shutter speeds are visible in the viewfinder. Instead of the normal mechanical shutter button, the FR was fitted with a 'Feather-Touch' electronic release. It was fitted with the Contax/Yashica bayonet lens mount, allowing the use of either Yashica or Carl Zeiss T* lenses. The camera was available with a power winder, and could also accept an available Contax/Yashica motor drive and infrared remote shutter release.

Yashica FR

Yashica soon introduced several new 35mm SLR cameras in 1976, in response to the success of the Contax RTS, Yashica developed the upscale Yashica FR using some of the features of the RTS, including its electromagnetic shutter release. The FR was capable of using the entire range of Carl Zeiss T* lenses. In contemporaneous tests, the FR was described as being tougher in some ways than the more expensive Contax RTS, including better sealing against dust and contaminants. This practice of "pairing" similar Contax models with more affordable, less full-featured, but still high-quality Yashica models would continue for the next ten years.
