Sperm Whale – The most striking feature of the Sperm Whale is its enormous bulbous head, which takes up a full third of its length. The Sperm Whale may grow over 60 feet (18 m) in length. They are found mostly in warmer waters but range all over the world. This giant feeds only on tiny squid and cuttlefish which it catches in dives lasting up to an hour. Like all whales, the Sperm Whale must return to the surface to breath. The numbers of Sperm Whales have been severely depleted through hunting. The valuable whale oil and Ambergris have long been sought by hunters. Today these products can be made synthetically no longer necessitating the hunting of whales. This pendant is made from lead-free pewter and measures 2” long and 1” high. It is strung with a cord and mounted on a card with the above narrative on it.
